Direct Entry / Keyboard

DIRECT ENTRY
Direct entry is a data entry form that does not use keyboard to input a data. Today, more data and instruction are entered a CPU of microcomputer directly using direct entry devices or direct input devices use to provide a more natural interface. This entry devices reduce users' typing errors. While direct entry is an advance fourth generation data entry form, voice input (speech input) is the mode of next generation input technology.
There are many forms of direct input device :

  • Light Pen
  • Graphic Tablet
  • Scanner
  • Bar Code Reader
  • Magnetic Entry
  • Voice-Input Device

KEYBOARD

Keyboard is an input device, partially modeled after the typewriter keyboard, which use an arrangement of buttons or keys, to act as mechanical level or electronic switches. A keyboard typically has characters engraved or printed on the keys and each press of a key typically corresponds to a single written symbol. However, to produce some symbols requires pressing and holding several keys simultaneously or in sequence. While most keyboard keys produce letters, numbers or signs (characters), other keys or simultaneous key presses can produce actions or computer commands.

Traditional Keyboard
-full-sized, rigid, rectangular keyboards that include function, navigational, and numeric keys-

Flexible Keyboard

-fold or roll up for easy packing or storage-



Wireless Keyboard

-transmit input to the system unit through the air-

Ergonomic Keyboard

-similar to traditional keyboard however, is not rectangular and a palm rest is provided-


PDA Keyboard

-miniature keyboard for PDAs and smart phone to send e-mail, create documents, and more-
